OnePlus Working with Microsoft on a Windows Phone? OnePlus Director Carl Pei Confirms They're Not
Rumors were going around that OnePlus were working with Microsoft for a Windows Phone of the already known OnePlus One, but this was proven false.
OnePlus is about to release their OnePlus One device in India by the end of this December, and they are planning to go straight with the market and not provide pre-orders for the said handset. The price for the handset is already announced to be $325.
The rumors of OnePlus and Microsoft collaboration started from the reported article by The Economic Times, as the head of OnePlus Global, Carl Pei, also spoke to the source in an interview. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding there, as later on, Carl Pei clarified with the source that the company wasn't working on a Windows Phone.
"Carl Pei was speaking to the fact that we are open to choice for our users and had even at one point spoken with Microsoft about perhaps having Windows as a choice for install on the One. We have no plans to make a Windows phone", explained by an OnePlus spokesperson.
This means that OnePlus was considering the Microsoft's OS for their One device, but didn't mean that the company is planning to work on a Windows Phone device.
For the meantime, what is certain is that the OnePlus company is trying to come up with a new OS, and also working on some improvements. The company's OS team is trying to develop a heavily skinned version of Android, while they are also planning to make CyanogenMod the OS for OnePlus Two.
