Why Disney's Short Film 'Feast' is an Oscar Contender?
Everybody's excited for Disney's upcoming film "Big Hero 6" but viewers are in for a surprise for Disney's short film title "Feast." Believe it or not, "Feast" is a love story of a man who owned a Boston Terrier named Winston. The man's personal journey is going to be told through the food that he gives his best friend, Winston.
"Feast" is going to be shown side by side with "Big Hero 6" and it is directed by none other than Patrick Osborne. Osborne is also the one who directed "Paperman."
A simple storyline that will surely touch the heart of many. "Feast" is a short animation film but it is not short on talent, emotions and creativity. "Feast" will take its viewers through an emotional roller coaster ride - laughter then tears then back to laughter again. According to Variety, audience at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival feels like clapping alone did not justify how they really feel about the short film. They started stomping loudly. The gesture shocked Osborne and left him speechless.
According to IndieWire, "Feast" is one of the top contender for an Oscar nomination in the Best Animated Short category. Osborne revealed that the inspiration for the film came after he recorded a one-second video clip containing his various meals.
What makes "Feast" unique is that Winston, the dog, was not given any human attributes and characteristics. Winston maintained the characteristics of a real dog which made the film more endearing to the audience. The trailer showed Winston as an adorable dog who will gobble up just about anything. The film has little dialogue but was still able to convey the story - Winston's owner who loves junk food, steak, ice cream et cetera ended up dating a health-conscious lady. The couple's relationship radically change Winston's diet as well. As to how the change will affect Winston remains to be seen.
Towards the end of the trailer, Winstons was running with a leaves on his mouth - probably herbs and he seems to be running or chasing someone. Who is he chasing and what's with the leaf. According to io9, the questions are going to be answered on Nov. 7, 2014.
