Apple New iPad: iPhones Outshine iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3
Apple's soft launching of its latest device, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 this week has fallen under the shade of iPhones. The people showed no signs of eagerness to get hold of the new gadget but are instead waiting for the availability of hot-selling iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Whereas, the release of iPhones have made a remarkable boost to Apple's earnings, having sold 39.9 million units in the last quarter.
iPad Air 2 is only 6.1 millimeters thick, with ToucID fingerprint scanner, improved battery life and enhanced A8X processor. However, a customer voiced her opinion in TIME that at $499 with 16GB storage capacity, it would not make much difference from an iPhone 6 Plus or a Macbook.
She explained further that "iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are designed to make the transition from iPhone to Mac easier than ever with features like Handoff and Continuity; there's hardly any reason to take a pitstop at the iPad along the way . . . For better or worse, Apple's allowed the iPad to become the giant iPhone its critics have always insisted that it is, and in a world with giant iPhones that's a tough spot to be in."
CNET reported that on Thursday morning, customers disregarded the unfavourable weather conditions and lined up in front of an Apple store at Fifth Avenue, in Manhattan, not because of their interest in the launching of new iPads, but to buy iPhones. The scene illustrates the decreasing demand for tablets as evidenced also by low sales growth and the increasing preference for a more efficient iPhones.
Latest iPhones have larger screens, enhanced cameras and can be used as mobile wallets. Whereas, it can be observed that petty improvements were made on the latest iPads.
Scott Stein aired his explanation in TIME saying that, "The iPad Air 2 is undoubtedly better than any other current iPad, but its advantages might matter less than last year's dramatically-redesigned iPad Air: screen quality, size, and battery life are close enough, effectively, to feel the same. Processor power and camera quality - and Touch ID - are welcome additions, but not needle-movers for the typical iPad user. Year-old iPads have never seemed like better bets."
It could be the best iPad, but there is something better.
