Pope Francis Announcement Reveals and Updates: Francis Declares Big Bang and Evolution are Real and God does not have a Magic Wand
It seems like the Vatican is taking a whole new direction to the creation story, one that not everyone in catholic school was raised with, that is for sure. Apparently the pope announced recently the theories of evolution and the Big Band are real and God is not 'a magician with a magic wand' so to speak. He was speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and made some comments to which experts claimed would end the 'pseudo theories' of creationism and intelligent design which some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, Benedict XVI. Pope Francis explained that both of the scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of the creator, rather they require it.
"When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so," he claims. Well, it seems the catholic church has then come full circle because it has long had a reputation for being anti-science. Galileo faced the inquisition and was forced to retract his theory the earth revolved around the sun which was deemed as heresy at the time. Giovanni Bignami, a professor and president of Italy's National Institute of Astrophysics, told the Italian news agency, Adnkronos: "The pope's statement is significant. We are the direct descendents from the Big Bang that created the universe. Evolution came from creation."
Giulio Giorello, who is a professor of philosophy of science at Milan's University Degli Studi, told reporters he believed Francis was trying to reduce the emotion of disputes the secular world has had with religion. That would mean that Pope Francis was looking to seek a compromise between the two but to what end and for how long is another question. At the present, the belief system is what it Is because there as many Catholics that are in outrage with this statement as those that are relieved and agree with it.
