Starting a Christmas Revolution with Eva Kroon Pike
"Christmas Revolution" is the new holiday single from singer/songwriter Eva Kroon Pike. The song, written by Pike and veteran Christian hit songwriter Don Koch, was serviced on Monday, November 3.
The new single, which was inspired by Pike's desire to refocus on the true meaning of Christmas, juxtaposes joyous, bouncy and encouraging lyrics against a military drum roll to create a unique take on the song's revolutionary theme. The martial musical underpinning forms a firm foundation for layer upon layer of shimmering pop instrumentation, and serves to heighten Pike's pristine vocals as she encourages listeners to "Start a Christmas revolution/ where a baby is a king/ where hope can conquer anything!"
We are so honored to catch up with Eva for this exclusive Hallels' interview.
Hallels: Eva thank you for your time. Congratulations on the release of your new single "Christmas Revolution." For our readers who may not have heard the song yet, what is the song about?
In thinking about writing a Christmas song, I wanted to send a bold and revolutionizing message concerning what (the world has allowed to happen to the meaning of Christmas. I wanted to convey the immediate need for Christians to rise up, show the world who we are, and that we are committed to demonstrate peace, hope, joy and love. But how? Through a Revolution...a dramatic change in ideas or practice...it's time for a revolution to let the world know that through a child, born to die, would come salvation for all mankind.
Hallels: What can we as ordinary Christians do to start a Christmas Revolution?
We can be bold in our faith and choose to give more than receive. We can make sacrifices in our own lives and go out of our way to be kind during what can be the most unkind time of year. We can invite someone for a meal who may not know where their next meal will come from and encourage others around you to do the same! We can be a reflection of who Christ is through our actions and words. We can take a stand when the world wants to take Christ out of Christmas by voting and electing godly leaders in our government. We can do a lot!
Hallels: You got to work with Don Koch for this single. Don has worked with some of the biggest names in Christian music such as Avalon, 4HIM and Phillips, Craig and Dean. How did you get to work with him?
I met Don at a music conference in Nashville in August of 2009 called Immerse. We attended a couple of workshops that he was helping to lead and had some wonderful conversations throughout the week. I ended up giving him a demo CD of mine and after a couple of days he called me and well, the rest is history!
Hallels: What is it like working with him?
Don is so much fun to work with. He really makes the whole process look so easy. From writing, to tracking, to recording, mixing and mastering he is just incredibly crafted to do what he does as a writer & producer! And, when the days get long and stressful he just knows when to push through and when to move on.
Hallels: Do you have plans to follow up the single with a full Christmas album?
As of now we are just taking one single at a time. We would love to do more but I would really like to see how "Christmas Revolution" pulls through this Christmas season!
Hallels: You also have a new EP "Love is all About You" out. Tell us what is the EP like?
Where do I begin?! This EP is fresh and definitely portrays who I am as a person. Through my previous album "Grace That Chose Me" I learned so much about the whole process of making an album, so my hopes and desires of "Love is All About You" was to pull more out from who I am, the life I live and the people I've met. Through my ministry, I have grown so much through the stories of others. They have impacted my life. I wanted to share those circumstances and life moments to create an album worth talking about!
Hallels: Speaking of Christmas, what does Christmas mean to you?
Christmas, for me, has always been about celebrating Jesus. Even as a young child, Christmas was centered around church cantatas and programs, holiday parties, gift giving and family get-togethers throughout the month of December. Now, the world has gone from commercializing Christmas and emphasizing gift giving to absolutely rejecting Christ, the Savior of the world! For me, Christmas will always be about giving...giving the Son of God to a lost and dying world!
Hallels: For our readers who would like to purchase your new single or EP, where can they go?
I have an online store through my website, evakroonpike.com or you can find it through CDBaby and iTunes.
