Rick Warren to Speak During the Pope's Visit at World Meeting of Families
Senior pastor of Saddleback Community Church Rick Warren will be speaking during the pope's visit at World Meeting of Families. Warren was among national religious leaders welcoming Pope Francis on Wednesday to his three-city tour of America.
Heading to Philadelphia, Warren will speak on Friday morning, along with Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston, during Pope Francis' World Meeting of Families.
"I'm not a Catholic, and we have many differences with Catholics, but they love the Lord and we have much in common with that; we believe in the Bible, and the Trinity, and in Jesus and the resurrection," Warren said when he announced the news to his congregation last month.
The World Meeting of Families is a weeklong international event of prayer and celebration that draws participants from around the globe. The event is held every three years and is sponsored by the Holy See's Pontifical Council for the Family. It's the world's largest Catholic gathering of families. More than 2 million people are expected to attend the eighth annual event.
