Glen Campbell Can No Longer Speak, Wife Kim Confirms

During his 50 years in show business, Glen Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and accumulated 12 RIAA Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Double-Platinum album. Quite a few of his album releases were Christian releases, incluing his much lauded "Show Me Your Way," "Wings of Victory" and "Love is the Answer: 24 Songs of Faith, Hope, and Love." However, in June 2011, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier.
In April 2014, news reports indicated that Campbell had become a patient at an Alzheimer's long-term care and treatment facility. NBC News reported that Campbell could no longer speak for himself and that two of his children, Debby and Travis, had sought legal action against Campbell's wife Kim, with the assertion that she had "secluded" the singer and prevented them from "participating" in Campbell's medical care.
Now, Glen's wife gives us an update on the singer's health. "He's healthy, he's content," Kim shares with WTSP news in Tampa Bay, Fla. "He's lost most of his ability to communicate verbally. He has severe aphasia, but he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses, and he enjoys food."
Kim Campbell says that the family are holding onto their faith during their trying times. "We just trust that God has a purpose for everything that we face in our lives, and we just love each other through whatever we're going through. Alzheimer's is a disease that affects the whole family."
Kim Campbell founded the I'll Be Me Alzheimer's Fund with director James Keach, who directed Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me. For more information, visit the organization's official website.
