Hillary Scott Reveals a Little Secret Regarding Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel"

Hillary Scott & The Scott Family top the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and secure the No. two position on the Billboard Top Country Album's chart this week. Their debut album LOVE REMAINS (EMI Nashville, Capitol CMG) move over 31,000 units in its first week. With an album full of great Christian tunes, Hillary Scott reveals a little relatively unknown secret about Carrie Underwood's #1 hit "Jesus Take the Wheel."
Prior to her Lady Antebellum days, Hillary signed to a development deal with a major label. During this time, Hillary heard "Jesus Take the Wheel" loved it and she almost record it. Telling Taste of Country, she reveals: "It was one of my favorites, and then that was all right in the time she was on American Idol ... She was a country artist on American Idol, which was amazing, and that song really spoke to her," Scott explains. "She goes on to take it and it's a huge hit and the message of the song is so beautiful."
"It's neat to have watched the journey - the journey of that song - because they all have their own," she adds.
"Jesus, Take the Wheel" was released in October 2005 as the first single from Underwood's debut album Some Hearts. The ballad tells of a woman seeking help from Jesus in an emergency, ultimately letting Jesus take control of her life.
The Country-Christian song became a crossover hit, spending six consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and charting high on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It also became a top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
"Jesus, Take the Wheel" won Grammys for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song, and it won Single of the Year at the 2005 Academy of Country Music Awards. The song ranked number four on CMT's 40 Greatest Songs of the Decade.
