Remember When Stacie Orrico's Self-Titled Album was a Huge Crossover Success?
Eighteen years ago, Stacie Orrico was crowned the new "diva" of music when her sophomore self-titled album became an instant hit on both the pop and Christian charts. The album wasn't just successful in the US alone, it peaked in the top ten in different countries, including Japan, Norway and the United States, and the top twenty in Switzerland, New Zealand, Austria and Germany.
Here are 7 facts relating to Orrico's iconic album that you may not know about.
1. The album peaked at number fifty-nine on the US Billboard 200, while it rested on the top spot on the Billboard Top Christian Albums. The album has sold over half a million copies, thus it has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
2. The album was originally titled Say It Again. It was originally a CCM album directed only to Christian pop radio, with a release date of April 2002. However, when Virgin Records saw mainstream potential with Orrico, the album was postponed and then cancelled while it was retooled. It was finally released in the US on March 25, 2003.
Four tracks from Say It Again were removed, although two were later released as single B-sides and Japanese bonus tracks on the album. "Bounce Back", Say It Again's first single, was completely re-recorded and "Security" and "Maybe I Won't Look Back" received major alterations. The songs "Stuck", "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life", "I Promise", "I Could Be the One", "Instead", and "Strong Enough" were added to the track listing.
3. The album's most successful song is the album's second single "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life." The single peaked at number twelve in the United Kingdom and number thirty in the US, making it Orrico's highest charting single in the United States.
4. The song "I Promise," which is also the album's third single, was written by Diane Warren. Warren has written nine number-one songs and 32 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Some of Warren's clients include Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Cher, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Chicago, LeAnn Rimes, and many others.
5. Orrico was nominated in 2004 for the first time at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in the category Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, but the award was given to Michael W. Smith.
6. The song Tight" contains a sample from "Dance With Me" as performed by 112 and "Hesitation" contains a sample from "Genuine" off Orrico's first album Genuine.
7. In 2004, Orrico's songs "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" and "Stuck" appeared on the Barbie Hit Mix.
