Nick Jonas New Album 2014, Watch Video Teasers for New Single "Chains", Listen Here (VIDEO)
Nick Jonas is just one day away from the release of his new music video for his single "Chains" and MTV has released a few (extremely short) teasers for the video, which you can watch HERE. The full music video releases on Wednesday, July 30th.
"I wanted this one to just be like an art piece," the 21-year-old singer shared with MTV. "Like a trailer to a cinematic movie and really have the tone of the song connected to the visual because it is dark and edgy and I think this video really captures that. It's a really beautiful visual."
"It's a song that embodies the feeling of being trapped in a love that is hopeless," Jonas shared about his new single with MTV. "I think it's a great new sound for me and a really good taste tester for this project."
"The story behind 'Chains' is basically that feeling that all people can relate to, it's being trapped. For me specifically in this song, I connected to love and trust and for some people they have said it's broader for them, it's more than love, it can be about anything that entangles you in your life and doesn't let you do what you need to do to feel free," he said. "I think this is a good fit and I fell in love with the song and I really feel like it has become a staple for this album."
When asked about the sound on his new album, Jonas shared about his influences.
"I've been really influenced by a lot of modern stuff, as well as like my classic roots, so Prince being a big one, a lot of falsetto work, Hall & Oates, is a big part of this, and then The Weekend and singing Drake, which I feel like is a different artist to Drake rapping, but I love them both," he told MTV News. "But singing Drake and this guy Erik Hassle, a new artist that I really love, and, you know, Sam Smith and that kind of vibe, so like if you kind of mash that all together: it's that."
"That's what I grew up on and that's what feels natural when I open my mouth to sing and so having a pop alternative music bed with the soul vocal, I feel like really works," he explained. "I think this is definitely more of a mature sound as it relates to Jonas Brothers music and Nick Jonas & the Administration."
