Robin Williams Honored by Billy Crystal at 2014 Emmy Awards with Musical Performance from Sara Bareilles August 25th
With the sudden and tragic death of actor/comedian Robin Williams on August 11th, Emmy executive producer Don Mischer announced on Wednesday that they are planning a tribute with Billy Crystal for the awards show next week. Along with Crystal, singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles will perform during the Memoriam segment.
Crystal is a longtime friend of Williams, with the two actors starring together in Ivan Reitman's 1997 comedy Father's Day. Crystal wrote a brief message on Twitter following news of Williams death but his Emmy tribute will be the first time to speak at length about his friend since his passing.
The 66th Emmy Awards will air live on both coasts on Monday, Aug. 25, from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live beginning at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on NBC.
Presenters for the 2014 Emmys include Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Halle Berry, Bryan Cranston, Viola Davis, Gwen Stefani, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Woody Harrelson, Julianna Margulies, Matthew McConaughey, Jim Parsons, Amy Poehler, Julia Roberts and Kerry Washington.
"Orange Is The New Black" is up for 12 Emmys, the most for a comedy series as well as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy with Taylor Schilling and Outstanding Comedy Series.
However, HBO's "Game of Thrones" leas the way with 19 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Lena Headey.
Tune in to NBC on Monday to catch the moving tribute to Williams from Crystal and Bareilles and see all of your favorite nominations Monday night at 8/7c.
