Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs, Rumors about Next Samsung Smartphone
While Samsung is still fresh off of the release of the Galaxy S5, rumors are already circulating about the new Galaxy S6 that will come out in 2015. Sales have been slumping for the Korean company, so they know the Galaxy S6 has to be highly innovative to rise above and attract consumers.
Samsung usually unveils their new high-end Galaxy smartphones during the Mobile World Congress. The 2015 MWC is set for March 2, 2015 and people expect Samsung to unveil the Galaxy S6 at an Unpacked event around the same time.
Yoon Han-kil, SVP of product strategy at Samsung, said in April that the company's future high-end devices would feature " a new form factor." The Galaxy S6 will feature a metallic frame to give it a premium feel (similar to the iPhone from Apple).
The Galaxy S6 will keep growing in size to include a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, with the new smartphone having a 1440 x 2650 resolution with 442ppi.
Samsung is working on the 4K technology and it is believed that it will be included in the Galaxy S6.
Samsung's release of the Galaxy Round was their first smartphone release with curved display technology. The company use a curved display in Galaxy S6? We will have to wait and see, but since the Galaxy Round was only a niche product, not sure when the flexible display would be ready for mass production.
Fans expect the Galaxy S6 to sport a 20MP front camera as Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758)'s Xperia Z1 comes with 20.7MP main shooter. The handset is expected to have a Adreno 430 graphics processor to support high-resolution videos and images. The latest Adreno 430 delivers 30% faster performance. Another upgrade could include the 3,300mAh battery.
The Galaxy S6 will use Qualcomm's newest processors, the Snapdragon 808 or 810. The six-core, 64-bit Snapdragon 808 supports 2K display, and it's considered the best smartphone processor on the market.
The Galaxy S6 should have at least 3GB of RAM as the upcoming Note 4 will include this as well.
