Animation Studio of Legend of Korra Signs Multi-Series Deal with DreamWorks
Studio Mir, a South Korean based Animation Studio, has signed a 4-year contract with DreamWorks Animation.
Studio Mir is widely known as the same animation studio responsible for Nickelodeon's hit TV show the Legend of Korra. The two companies will co-develop and co-produce four animated TV series. Each show is expected to have 78 episodes and will be 2-D animated, much like The Legend of Korra reports Variety.
Founder and CEO of Studio Mir, Yoo Jae-myung released the following statement "This contract is a solid opportunity for the entire Korean animation industry to create a better workforce and infrastructure in the field of animation," said Yoo. Korean animation companies have been known to be often collaborators to American produced TV shows and feature films, much like how most of Fox's The Simpsons is handled by Anivision and AKOM, both of which are Korean based companies. It is a rare feat however to have foreign companies to have equal ownership of intellectual properties. "The contract between DreamWorks and Studio Mir is a landmark in that it is a partnership of equals," said Yoo.
The deal is expected to be rooted from the beautifully animated Legend of Korra, which has run now for 3 seasons, and the 4th season is expected to be released early next year.
