MotoGP 2014 San Marino GP: Race Results and Top 5 Ranking
Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi finally got his first MotoGP this season. This is also his first MotoGP win in 15 months. This victory marks the 81st win in his storied super bike racing career. After this career victory, his MotoGP exploded beyond 5,000 points.
Aside from the impact of this win to his illustrious career, this victory also smeared the team Honda's run this season. They were winning 100% of the races with Marc Marquez always on the race lead until Rossi stole this particular track.
It was a thrilling race right from the get-go. The 35-year old Italian racer qualified third on the grid just behind Spanish teammate Jorge Lorenzo and the Italian Andrea Iannone. The race leader, Marc Marquez was starting from the second row but looking to grab his 12th win in 13 races.
Rossi battled it out with Marquez early on the race until Marquez lost control of his bike in the 10th lap. With 19 more laps to go, he was never able to get close to Rossi again and ended the race in the 15th place. As a result, his 89-point lead overall lead was lowered down to 74.
It was clear that Valentino Rossi was determined to grab the win. His last MotoGP win was in Assen in the Netherlands in June last year. Rossi showed his heart and hunger for another win as he gave it his all to grab then home town victory. He lives very near the Misano circuit where this particular leg of the 2014 MotoGP race took place.
Valentino Rossi was followed by Spanish teammate Jorge Lorenzo. Team Honda's Dani Pedrosa clinched the third spot.

1. Marc Marques (Spa) Honda Repsol 289 points
2. Dani Pedrosa (Spa) Honda Repsol 215 points
3. Valentino Rossi (Ita) Yamaha 214 points
4. Jorge Lorenzo (Spa) Yamaha 177 points
5. Andrea Iannone (Ita) Ducati 142 points
