Gmail Hacked: What Should You Do?
One of the common frustrations of Gmail users is when their accounts get hacked. So, what should you do if this happens?
The first thing you should do is to check if you can still log in. This seems a waste of time but there are some hackers who fail to change your password right away. If you can still log in, change your password immediately and check your mobile number, secondary email, and secret question if these have been changed. It is even better if you can change everything on your profile.
If you cannot log in, you can reset your password through this link: https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery. You can get out of this kind of situation if you can act and think faster than the hacker.
If your password has already been changed, contact Google. Prepare to fill in a form. If you cannot remember your secret question and the answer, go to this page: https://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/request.py?hl=en&contact_type=acc_reco&ara=2&ctx=acc_reco&rd=1. Check the "No" box there. This will indicate that you were unable to access your account using the above mentioned methods. The form is short and straightforward. This will also let Google ascertain that you are the true owner of your account. It will also tell you the exact time your account was hacked.
Unfortunately, this is your point of having a lawful option. If you do not have a secondary email address, you should provide one.
While Google is getting associated with lots of hacking incidents, the company has released a statement regarding these. So, if you have a Gmail account, you better change your password regularly.
