Everest Movie Release Date, Reveals, Reviews, Spoilers and Plot: Mountaineering Movie to Feature Star Studded Cast; Kiera Knightley, Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal
The 1996 climbing season was the deadliest in the mountains history until the 2014 avalanche. The events that led to the deaths of eight people on the mountain are outlined in the movie. Working Title Films, Cross Creek Pictures Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have handed the 65 million dollar project over to Baltasar Kormakur to direct. Kormakur has done work on movies both as an actor and a director with one of his projects being A Little Trip to Heaven starring Forrest Whitaker.
The disaster that took away the lives of these people seems like a series of unfortunate events. The people involved came from two different climbing parties. Shortly after the midnight on 10th of May members from both climbing parties made an attempt on the summit. The Sherpa had not laid the anchor lines in time delaying the climbing party. The party going up the hill totaled 33 men which in itself was a mistake because that was considered a bloated team. Guides from the two teams were trying to outdo each other on the climb. A large number of the clients did not have the sufficient climbing experience and were lulled into a false sense of security by the presence of bottled oxygen and skilled guides. Add to this the seemingly poor decisions made by the guides and the climbers as pertains the visibility, ability to climb the mountain and descent time and it was a hopeless situation. The movie will need a really good special effects team and the set will really have to be Gravity-esq to make the movie convincing.
The cast list includes Kiera Knightley, Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal and Sam Worthington. As you would imagine the cast list is quite extensive considering the number of people who were on the mountain on the day of the disaster. The team began shooting on 13th January 2014 in the Otszal Alps of Italy with the regional film board giving the movie a one million dollar boost. The movie is set to be released on September 8th of 2015.
