Philadelphia Eagles Center Jason Kelce May Be Sidelined For Two Months Because Of Sports Hernia
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly in a press conference held Monday afternoon confirmed that center Jason Kelce will be needing surgery for a sports hernia injury. Responding to inquiry from reporters, he said, "I don't know how long [Kelce] will be out.... I don't have a timetable in terms of our next step."
SB Nation in a report said that Howard Eskin of Fox 29 tweeted "Starting to hear that @eagles
C Jason Kelce likely to have surgery for some form of hernia. Could miss up to 2 months. Eag looking 4 player" just after the Eagles' center left in the first half of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins because of the injury he sustained in the playing field. This means that Kelce may not be able to return until around late November or early December. "If that's the case," says SB Nation, "Philadelphia could be without Kelce for around seven or eight games." Kelce was replaced by backup center David Molk during Sunday's game, which his team won 24-20.
Kelce apparently sustained the injury after he got tangled up in a pile on a LeSean McCoy run. He remained on the field for a few minutes before he was helped to the sideline by trainers. At the sideline, he was seen walking around gingerly before deciding to head to the locker room. The team ruled him out for the rest of the game.
Kelce's injury is another big blow to the Philadelphia Eagles' NFL campaign. Already, their starting left guard Evan Mathis is on injured reserve with an MCL injury, their full-time right tackle starter Lane Johnson is serving a four-game suspension, and their fill-in right tackle starter Allen Barbre has a serious ankle injury. Matt Tobin, a reserve lineman, has a high ankle sprain, but could play next week, according to the Washington Post.
Last year, according to CSNPhilly, the 26-year old Kelce was voted by his teammates as the 'Ed Block Courage' award after starting all 17 games one year after he suffered a major knee injury that required reconstructive surgery that cut his 2012 season short by 14 games.
