Film Review: "No Good Deed": Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson shine together
Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson in a movie together; the thought alone could have you rushing to book your double seat for a night out watching some hair raising performances. The catch would first need to be worth them rising to their long known and much loved talents in portraying great characters.
Running short of ninety minutes, the plot centers on how when conveniently presented with a car accident in front of a beautiful woman's house in a blizzard, Colin Evans (Idris) - an escaped convict with a violent past, approaches the porch of Terri (T Henson- beautiful strong woman), and is welcomed to use the phone, seek cover and recover from the minor mishap that just transpired. There and then you can tell how the story is most likely to turn out, except this is a black film and we all know the assumption that she would welcome a stranger into a house with two young kids at her watch is just too far-fetched.
Some initially good conversation is exchanged and we discover that the lonely beautiful wife, Terri, misses a presence and stare such as provided by Colin. Not only do we get the thriller type precognition cathartic effect custom to white movies at this juncture, but we couldn't help wade deeper into disbelief as to how such could actually happen and be best chosen to be depicted by these characters.
Short story short, the tide turns violent as Colin's true nature is revealed as he terrorizes this Good Samaritan after some slight misunderstood lines that eventually take the entire movie to a wrap. Turns a huge line of guesses made during the start and the conversations to waste as the plot run wild.
Set at a reasonable budget of US$13 million, casting an underestimated set of actors and only lasting moments above the hour mark; you wouldn't be blamed to give the movie a glance. Although much could have been done to pile up on the script, if not for our attention's sake then maybe for the respect the cast deserves.
