Top Gun 2 full movie release date still unconfirmed; Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Jerry Bruckheimer will be involved in the project
Top Gun 2 latest news: It took them almost three decades. Top Gun 2, the sequel to the movie that brought Tom Cruise Hollywood fame, has been given the green light.
Original Top Gun producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Con Air, Armageddon, Pirates of the Caribbean) and cast member Val Kilmer are said to be involved in Top Gun 2, release date of which has yet to be confirmed.
In an interview with Huffington Post, the Top Gun 2 producer says, "We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer."
The iconic 1986 film launched many a career. Inspired by the article Top Guns written by Ehud Yonay for California magazine, the action drama starred Cruise and Kilmer along with Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards and Tom Skerritt.
Bruckheimer and Top Gun's original director, Tony Scott, have been discussing the project for quite some time, but it was almost shelved with Scott's death in 2012.
In Top Gun 2, Cruise will reprise his role as elite US Navy pilot in training Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
The Top Gun 2 movie plot is keeping up with the times: as more and more institutions are using air drones, people have started to believe that human pilots are relics of the past. But Maverick and his crew are out to prove that men like them are here to stay.
