The Kingsmen Give New Life to Treasured Favorite, “Saints Will Rise”

The latest single from this winter's Unstoppable God album is just now making its way up the charts, but legendary Southern Gospel quartet The Kingsmen are eager to satisfy their fans' seemingly endless appetite for new music - and, in the case of their new Horizon Records single, old music made new again, too.
A treasured favorite from the '80s, "Saints Will Rise" is a joyful anticipation of the Resurrection that embodies many of Southern Gospel's core strengths - a sturdy melody, call-and-response alternations between solo voices and the quartet, choruses that invite audiences to join in, and, of course, a simple, yet profoundly uplifting message of faith. So when the group began looking at previously-recorded material to assemble into a follow-up to last year's Decades retrospective and realized that there were gaps in the catalog that needed to be filled, "Saints Will Rise" was one of the most obvious candidates for a new treatment - and with backing that thoughtfully brings the arrangement into the present and the renewed energy that the current lineup first revealed on Unstoppable God brought into the studio, it's a performance likely to extend the song's popularity decades further into the future.
"When we were in the studio recording," recalls baritone singer Alan Kendall, "I was blown away by the staunch commitment that Brady, Cole, Thomas, Brandon and I all shared to both preserve these classics and keep them refreshing. In fact, if you listen closely to Thomas sing his step-outs, you might wonder if it's the late Ernie Phillips himself singing those lines! To cap it off, we just had to let Ray Dean Reese join in with his signature delivery on the final chorus. I love this song, and I love this updated arrangement!"
