Crouching Tiger Sequel to be Produced by Netflix; Crouching Tiger Netflix To Usher in Online Hollywood Movie Distribution?
One of the biggest Hollywood announcements recently is the news of a sequel to one of highest-grossing foreign films in America, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, that is supposed to come out in August 2015. What is raking up more buzz about it, however, is not so much on the fact that a sequel is on the works, but that it is reportedly going to be distributed by the popular online video distribution company, Netflix. Apparently, along with a big screen release, the much-anticipated Crouching Tiger sequel is also coming to small screens near you thanks to Netflix.
The gradual development of movie-watching that has now resulted in the Crouching Tiger sequel has proven once again how times and consumer habits are rapidly changing. What is noteworthy is that it's Netflix that has mainly got to do with it.
"That's mainly where I watch TV and where a lot of my friends watch television," said Dorion Wardlaw, a Netflix user.
It is also fitting that the Netflix first movie release is a much-awaited one that will surely have a massive audience. Netflix's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon might also give us a look on how this kind of online distribution may affect future types of movie distributions that Hollywood movies will learn to adapt.
The Crouching Tiger sequel will have a premiere on Netflix's online streaming services on August 28, 2015 with a simultaneous release in selected Imax theaters.
